Faaris Maumoon’s legal team have stated that the voice recording of Shaafiu submitted by the state as evidence against Faaris Maumoon was obtained illegally and hence they will not accept it.
Faaris Maumoon’s legal team requested the Criminal Court to dismiss the evidence. According to the legal team, the audio was obtained without a court order and a previous ruling of the High Court states that personal conversations of people cannot be listened to without a court order. In addition they said that, spying and eaves dropping is a crime under the penal code and hence it should not be accepted.
According to PG lawyers, the audio was obtained through police intelligence and how they got the audio cannot be revealed and also they did not listen to anything that was personal in nature.
Furthermore, Faaris Maumoon’s lawyers also requested to throw out the case because the PG is misusing her powers to prosecute Faaris.
