MIFCO has stated that the company is ready for the fishing season and off season as well.
Speaking to the press today at the head office of MIFCO, the chairman of MIFCO, Ahmed Shaheer said that since the fishing season is coming soon, the company is prepared for it. He said that in regard they have arranged ways for fishermen to weigh the fish and also an easy system to pay the fishermen immediately.
Shaheer said that in the past few days they have done a lot to solve these problems. He said that they have upgraded the infrastructure of the company and strengthened their relations with foreign partners.
“Even now they have booked many orders. Felivaru is working on full fledge. The production of Felivaru has increased by 30 percent. The pouch plant in Felivaru will be completed by the end of November and we can start exporting in December. Even now we have received orders from various buyers.
Shaheer said that they are trying to run the company as efficiently as possible. “We have fixed the ice plants and arranged and arranged for fishermen to weigh the fish easily. We have also done a lot to make the management more efficient” said Shaheer.
Shaheer said that when MIFCO became a subsidiary of STO, many people questioned the decision. “MIFCO has capable and loyal staffs. There are very capable people in the management and even in the technical fields. Hence now MIFCO is a profitable company. Will reveal the details by the end of the year” said Shaheer.
Shaheer said that to make the company more profitable they have solved many problems. “When there were three sperate companies, there were many problems. Infrastructure was rundown. Investments were needed in all areas. Hence a lot of problems were passed on to MIFCO” said Shaheer.
In addition he said that they plan to export value added products instead of raw fish or frozen fish. Shaheer also noted that since MIFCO was made a subsidiary of STO, they increased MVR 1 from each kilogram of fish and also decreased the price of fuel they sell to fishermen.
Shaheer thanked President Yameen for prioritizing to develop MIFCO. In addition he thanked the finance minister and fisheries minister for their assistance as well.
