President Yameen have stated that the government will develop the lagoons and uninhabited islands in the region for tourism purposes after the Kulhudhuhfushi Airport development project is completed.
Speaking at a ceremony held last night at Kulhudhuhfushi to mark the 6th anniversary of PPM, the President said that in addition to the islands in the region there are two lagoons in the region and soon the government will gazette the development projects for these lagoons and islands.
He said that there is potential to create hundreds of tourism beds and it will create hundreds of jobs which in turn will benefit the community. In addition, the president said that the airport will be completed by August 2018.
He said that large atolls should not have only one airport but are in need of multiple airports. “Hanimaadhoo Airport is in need of expansion. We are thinking and working on it” said the President.
President Yameen said that Kulhudhuhfushi will be the business hub of the north and the airport will open new business opportunities. He said that the people will benefit from it and the whole economy will develop as a result.
