Within 5 years, revenue from tourism will increase from 3.6 billion to 7 billion dollars: Saeed
Economic Minister Mohammed Saeed have said that within the next 5 years revenue from tourism will increase from 3.6 billion to 7 billion dollars.

Speaking at the rally held last night to mark the 4th anniversary of the current administration, the minister said that the jobs in the tourism sector will increase up to 134,000 as well. He said that based on the current number of beds, if the occupancy is at 80 percent then 3.6 billion dollars will be in the economy.

The minister said that if the number of beds are increased up to 50,000 then the economy develops significantly. The minister said that 108 billion Rufiyaa will be generated from the industry within 5 years.

He said that from 2009 to 2012, 8300 flights came to Maldives, but from 2014 to 2017 12,000 flights landed in Maldives. He said that this is an increment of 70 percent. The minister said that after 5 years, 42,000 flights will land annually.

“That is 109 flights per day. If we welcome 5 million passengers per year then 5-6 flights will land per house” said the minister.
The minister said that even now 114 resorts are being developed in the Maldives and it will increase the number of tourism beds. He said that these investments costs 6.5 billion dollars.

Speaking about Island Aviation he said that from 2000 to ‎2013 190,000 tourists travelled to Maldives via Island Aviation mean while from 2014 to ‎2017 658,000 tourists travelled via Island Aviation. In addition, he said that because of the projects that are being carried out the construction industry has developed by ‎800-1000 percent.

The minister talked about various others achievements of the government.
