Foreign Minister Dr.Asim have stated that Maldives will be always thankful for the numerous assistance given to Maldives by Japan over the years.
Speaking at a ceremony held to mark the 50th year since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two nations, Foreign Minister Asim said that even though the formal relations were established 50 years ago the two nations had good relations even before.
Dr.Asim noted the assistance given to Maldives by Japan in 1987 after the swell waves and after the 2004 tsunami. He also said that Japan built several schools around the Maldives. The minister further said that Japan is an exemplary country in working for women empowerment, human rights and climate change advocacy.
Dr.Asim also said that President Yameen’s first visit outside South Asia was to Japan and said that the two countries have really good relations. He said that the visit took the relations between the two nations to the next level.
