Korean Ambassador to Maldives Wong Saam Chang have said that even though Maldives and South Korea are located far away, the two countries are very close.
He made this statement while speaking at the ceremony held at Hotel Jen tonight to mark the 50th year since Maldives and South Korea established diplomatic relations.
The ambassador said that Korea has given grants worth 5.5 million dollars to Maldives and trained 160 civil servants of Maldives. He assured that Maldives will get the assistance of South Korea in all endeavors.
He said that the relations between the two nations are strengthening and even now both countries enjoy strong relations in various sectors. He said that both countries have similar aims in nuclear proliferation and climate change advocacy.
Furthermore, he noted that Maldives is a popular destination among South Korean honeymooners and said that the scheduled flights of Korean Air to Maldives have strengthened the relations between the two nations.
The ambassador said that even now Korean companies are active in the construction sector of Maldives and more companies are interested in the tourism sector as well.
