A meeting has been held to discuss the issue of security of Chinese tourists in the Maldives
A meeting has been held to discuss the issue of security of Chinese tourists in Maldives. The meeting was held in Sheraton Fullmoon resort.

Foreign Minister of Maldives, Dr.Mohammed Asim and Chinese Ambassador to Maldives Zhang Lizong took part in the meeting.

In addition, representatives from some resorts, tourism ministry, Maldivian Police, Immigration and MMPRC took part in the meeting.

One key issue raised at the meeting was lack of guides and staffs who can speak Chinese. Also the participants highlighted the importance of providing important information about Maldives as soon as the tourists arrive in Maldives. Furthermore, they discussed to advise the tourists to use lifejackets when swimming and not to wander away while snorkeling.


Tourism Ministry stated that the ministry always pays a lot of importance to the safety and security of the tourists who visits Maldives. So far this year only 35 incidents involving tourists occurred. Most of the incident occur due to lack of information. 35 incidents is quite insignificant considering 1.3 tourists visited Maldives this year.

In today’s meeting some safety signs specially prepared for Chinese tourists were launched. It was launched by Foreign Minister of Maldives and Chinese Ambassador to Maldives.

A similar meeting was held in 2015 as well.
