President Yameen and First Lady concludes state visit to China

President Yameen and First Lady have concluded their state visit to China. President visited china at the invitation of Chinese President Xi Jinping from 6th to 9th of December.


During the visit President Yameen held talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping and met with senior officials of the Chinese government. Leaders of both countries exchanged views on strengthening bilateral relations between the two nations.


Both Chinese and Maldivian officials noted that since the establishment of diplomatic relations between Maldives and China 45 years ago, the two countries have been adhering to the principles of equality, peaceful coexistence, and win-win cooperation which has resulted in remarkable development of bilateral relationship.


Officials from both sides agreed upon the importance of maintaining high level exchanges, deepen political mutual trust and to expand exchanges at different levels between the two governments.


Maldivian officials reiterated their support for and participation in the 21st century maritime silk road proposed by China and discussed about promoting trade and investments between the two countries.


One of the key highlights of the president’s visit was the signing of the free trade agreement between China and Maldives. Officials say that this agreement will energize the bilateral economic and trade cooperation between the two nations. Other cooperation documents that were signed includes, agreements on silk road economic belt and the 21st century maritime silk road initiative, human resource development, seawater desalination, solid waste treatment, recycling, health, technological cooperation, and finance.


Additionally, both countries agreed to strengthen cooperation on a wide range of areas including fields of marine environment, fisheries, and tourism. Both countries also agreed to work together in the international arena in ways that are mutually beneficial.


Government of China and government of Maldives expressed their satisfaction on the outcomes achieved as a result of the state visit to China by President Yameen and agreed that the visit was of great importance to further development of the relations between the two nations.
