Maumoon Hameed proposes 6 challenges to HRCM on the occasion of Human Rights Day
Prominent Lawyer Maumoon Hameed has proposed 6 challenges to HRCM on the occasion of Human Rights Day.

In his first challenge he asked HRCM to show a single jail in Maldives that is established in accordance with the law. The second challenge was regarding former Vice President Adeeb. He asked if it is lawful to keep Adeeb in Dhoonidhoo if it is a custodial jail.

He said that, Dhoonidhoo is a remand jail but at the moment Adeeb is serving a jail sentence. Maumoon’s third challenge was about former Defense Minister Nazim. He said that all the evidence shows that Nazim is innocent, but he is still in jail.

The fourth challenge was regarding AP President Sheikh Imran. He said that Imran is serving in jail for terrorism and that he was sentenced based on a speech he gave at a rally. Maumoon pointed that someone who confessed to making explosives is free while Imran is in jail.

The next challenge was about MP Mohammed Ismail who said that he distributed cash from bags full of cash. He said that no action was taken against this member while Qasim Ibrahim and Faris Maumoon are being charged for bribery.

As the final challenge he stated justice should be provided to those who have been abducted and killed but instead of that it can be seen that more warnings are issued to vulnerable people.

Meanwhile, a statement issues by HRCM yesterday states that, the commission conducted successful work this year as a result of the criminal procedures act.
