Home Minister Azleen Ahmed have said that if the local councils cooperate with the government, then they will not face any problems.
He said that the role of the local councils is very clear from the decentralization act and from the ministry’s circulars. He also said that, LGA did a lot of work to make some councilors who are not aware of these laws aware about the laws.
Azleen said that local councils are not separate governments and the purpose of the local government is to bring services closer to the people. He said that the councils who disregard the laws will be punished and if not then the government will be faced with a dangerous situation.
He said that no council has the authority to meet with foreign parties and sign agreements. Hence, if they want to meet with foreign officials that should be done in accordance with the regulations. He said that it is the responsibility of the government to maintain the sovereignty of the nation and the government will not let any one undermine the sovereignty of the country.
