Foreign Minister, Dr.Mohammed Asim have said that Maldives will remain committed to strengthen ties with India.
Dr.Asim said that Maldives has a time-tested relations with India and it is based on people to people contact and cooperation on several areas.
Meanwhile, various Indian newspapers have expressed concern after Maldives signed the free trade agreement with China. However, Indian officials have not said anything regarding the matter. Indian Foreign Ministry said that they can only comment regarding the matter when they know what is in the agreement.
India and Maldives have historically enjoyed close relations. Even now there is a joint military training of Maldivian and Indian armies.
