Chief Justice Abdullah Saeed have said that Islam is the religion of justice and that we must not lose Maldives.
He made this statement while speaking at a ceremony held to mark the day Maldives embraced islam. He said that Maldivians got interested in Islam because of the good qualities they found in the Muslim visitors to the Maldives. He said that this is what convinced Maldivian Buddhists to become Muslims.
“Since then Maldivians have given the utmost respect to Islam. In the last 891 years Islam has become a part of Maldivian nationality” said Abdullah Saeed.
Abdullah Saeed said that from 2nd Jumaadul Aahir 548, Maldivians have accepted Islam and that Maldives will remain as an Islamic country.
He said that Maldivians should think about the challenges Maldives and the whole Muslim world is facing in general.
“Today we hear Islamic principles being challenged in the name of human rights. The purpose of this is to prevent Maldives from remaining as our own” said the chief justice.
He said that today it is very common to associate terrorism with Islam and that is being done to weaken our faith and to create hatred towards muslims. He said that action of few muslims, give support to such claims and that the reality is that Islam is not extremism or terrorism.
“We should show to the world that Islam is the religion of mercy and compassion” said Abdullah Saeed.
He said that the government is conducting various religious programs and talked about some of them. He called everyone to work with strong determination to uphold Islamic values.
