Defence Minister Adam Shareef Umar have said that it should be ensured that the rulers of Maldives are governing in accordance with Islam and Maldivian laws.
Speaking at a ceremony held to mark the day Maldives embraced Islam he said that, it was islam that brought the greatest revolution to the Maldives and Islam changed our way of life.
He said that for these reasons, it was a victorious day for Maldives. He said that the civilization and development Maldives enjoy today is because of Islam and that everyone should believe it. Adam
Shareef said that the work done by Boduthakurufaanu to promote Islam in Maldives should be noted.
The minister said that different rulers worked at different levels to protect Islam in Maldives, but Maldivians always held Islam in very high esteem. Minister Shareef also talked about the measures taken by the government to promote religious unity.
He further said that, there are some people who try to bring other religions to Maldives and that everyone should be careful about it. He also said that, the anti-religious social media campaigns targeted at young people is something everyone should be aware of.
Minister Shareef said that, if any type of democracy is in conflict with Islam, then Maldivians will not accept it and the constitution of Maldives will also not allow it.
