Local Government Authority has given local councils the permission to meet with foreign diplomats without prior approval. However, LGA has instructed to send the details of any meetings within three days if a meeting takes place.
Previously, all the council members of GA.Atoll were suspended for three months after they met with Indian Ambassador to Maldives.
President Yameen said that such meetings had to be prevented because, often foreign diplomats make huge promises to the councils and then they fail to fulfil it.
The government faced criticism from some diplomats after the ban on meeting with foreign diplomats was announced.
