MRDC is to be contracted with developing the apron and the runway of Kulhudhuhfushi Airport. According to PSM the project will be officially awarded to MRDC within the next 2-3 days.
MRDC and MTCC were the only two companies which submitted proposals to develop the airport. The land needed for airport development has been reclaimed. Seven hectors from the sea and 9 hectors from the wetland areas were reclaimed for the project.
According to the government, the airport will be opened by August 2018. Development of this airport is a campaign pledge of President Yameen.
