Faris Maumoon released with conditions
MP for Dhiggaru constituency, Faaris Maumoon has been released with conditions.

Criminal Court ordered to free Faaris, with three conditions. He was asked not to manipulate evidence, to be present at the court whenever he is asked to do so and not to leave Male’ without the permission of the court.

While Faaris was released today, he has asked the court to conduct a forensic investigation of the case through a third party. Faaris Maumoon’s lawyers noted that the prosecution submitted pictures on Faaris Maumoon’s phone which were received after it was confiscated for investigation.

While the report says the phone was confiscated on Jun 5th, 2017, a photo on the report shows the date as 15th June 2017. Faaris Maumoon’s lawyers refused to accept the forensic report. The lawyers of the PG said that it was a typographic error that they have stated that the phone was confiscated on 5th June but it was actually confiscated on 15th July.

A hearing of the case is scheduled for next week and in the hearing Faaris will present how a third party can conduct a forensic investigation. Faaris was released after more than 6 months in detention.

Faaris is being charged for offering bribes to parliament members to pass a censure motion against the speaker of the parliament.
