Indian Ambassador to Maldives, Akhilesh Mishra is the most fluent in Dhivehi among ambassadors to Maldives. He has used Dhivehi in several occasions.
In the ceremony held to mark the 69th Republic Day of India, he said that he is learning Dhivehi and in next year’s Republic Day ceremony he will try to speak in Dhivehi.
In this year’s ceremony also he spoke in Dhivehi. He noted that there are many similarities between Hindi and Dhivehi and he said that from each word he learns, he realizes how close the two languages are.
Recently the Indian cultural center in Male’ started an Urdu language class.
