Defense Ministry has stated that the government did not request for foreign military assistance. A statement issued by the ministry says that the government did not make any requests to any country regarding the ongoing problems in the Maldives. The statement denied the allegations made by some foreign newspapers saying that Maldives requested military assistance from China.
The statement further said that Maldives is capable to uphold rule of law and solve domestic problems and asked everyone to respect that.
Defense Ministry made this statement after an Indian newspaper reported that Maldivian officials requested for military assistance from China. They said that China refused to send their military.
