Lawyer Hisaan Hussein have stated that the Chief Justice of the Maldives Abdullah Saeed was suspended unlawfully.
Chief Justice Abdullah Saeed was arrested by the security forces on 5th February and has been detained at Dhoonidhoo detention center since then.
Hisaan said that according to laws of JSC, they can take action against a sitting judge after questioning the judge. She said that the JSC’s law does not allow to suspend a judge just because the judge is being investigated by the police.
Hisaan said that the police have not questioned the chief justice so far and that he does not even know what questions he should answer.
In addition she said that the Chief Justice denies all allegations made by the police regarding him. He said that none of the evidence produced by the police are not related to him.
