We have sent 2 letters to the UN – those are the answers to the two letters sent by the government to start dialogue : Opposition coalition
Maldivian United Opposition have stated that they have sent two letters to the UN and that these two letters are answers to the letters sent by the government asking to start dialogue.

Speaking to the press, the PG leader of MDP Ibrahim Mohammed Solih said that the opposition always tries to solve problems through dialogue and that the opposition sent a letter to the Commonwealth before. He said that as a response to that letter the government left the Commonwealth.

Ibu said that the government sent the letters between 8th and 11th of this month and hence it is evident why the government sent these letters. He said that when the court issued a verdict on 1st February the government announced an unlawful state of emergency. He said that after that the Chief Justice and Justice Ali Hameed and former president Maumoon were arrested and hence they have nothing to talk about with the government.

“We do not have anything to say to a person who thinks that theft, corruption and embezzlement are natural” said Ibu. In addition he said that they have nothing to talk about to someone who takes pleasure in oppressing other, and they have nothing to talk about with an AG who is acting against the constitution.

Ibu said that these things should be done immediately by the government. He said that they requested UN to be a mediator in the dialogue between the opposition and the government because President Yameen is not a man of his words.

In a press conference held by PPM regarding this, an official of the party said that they will not take part in any talks where pre conditions are set to free convicted prisoners and called the government not to free anyone.
