Government of the Maldives has asked for international assistance to find hidden wealth of Chief Justice Abdullah Saeed and Justice Ali Hameed.
The Maldivian Ambassador to EU and UK Ahmed Shiaan spoke to Reuters saying that the government has sought foreign help to find the hidden wealth of these two judges who are under arrest at the moment.
He said that these two judges travelled abroad very often in the last few months and that according to sources they have purchased expensive real estate from various countries. He said that hence it is important to investigate whether they have bought any real estate.
After the verdict of 1st February, the government announced a state of emergency and arrested two supreme court judges and former president Maumoon Abdul Gayyoom.
The government accuses Maumoon of bribing these two judges to overthrow the government.
