Foreign Minister of Maldives, Dr.Asim have met with the OHCHR representative to Maldives Moana Rishmavi today.
In their meeting the minister talked about the importance of working with UN to safeguard human rights in the Maldives. In addition, the minister updated her on the political crisis in Maldives.
After the Supreme Court verdict of 1st February Maldives plunged into a political crisis. The government announced a state of emergency saying that the 1st February verdict was illegal. After the state of emergency was announced, Chief Justice Abdullah Saeed and Justice Ali Hameed were arrested by the security forces. After that the remaining judges of the Supreme Court annulled the Supreme Court verdict of 1st February.
UN has decided to talk with different political actors of Maldives to resolve the political crisis in Maldives.
