Will any MP support to extend the state of emergency ?
If the current state of emergency in Maldives needs to be extended, it would require the approval from the parliament.

A parliament session has been scheduled for tomorrow and it is questionable whether any MP will vote to extend the state of emergency.

Even thought the government says that things are normal in the Maldives, despite the state of emergency, economic experts do not believe this. The decline of tourist arrivals are hitting hard on guest houses. The tourism industry is on red alert.

Large resorts are facing up to 300,000 dollars as loss every day. Low end resorts are facing losses of 6000 dollars per day due to increased cancellations.

MIRA collected a record amount of 2.2 billion Rufiyaa as revenue in January. However we do not know what will happen to TGST of February. The future of tourist related businesses are in question.

We will start to experience of this huge loss starting from next month. We do not know how long it will take to overcome the losses.

Ordinary citizens will be affected by these economic losses. So one might wonder if the parliament members who were elected by the people will vote to extend the state of emergency just to appease the government. If they vote, then how will the people take it ?

The people of Maldives are waiting to see how their representatives vote in tomorrow’s parliament session.
