Protests have been held in various islands of the Maldives calling to implement the Supreme Court order of 1st February.
In addition to Addu City, and Male’, protests were held in N.Velidhoo, Lh.Kurendhoo, Ga.Villingili, Gdh Hoandedhoo and many other islands. Most of the protests were peaceful. However there was confrontations between the police and the protestors in Addu City. The police allowed pro-government protestors to protest while preventing anti-governmental protestors from protesting.
Opposition stated that if they were allowed to protest in Addu City they would have shown that they have more support than the government. The government forced many civil servants to attend the government rally. Opposition says that everyone who takes part in their protests do it on their own.
