Indian External Affairs Ministry have stated that there is no reason to retain the state of emergency in the Maldives. In addition they stated that the government of India wants to see democratic values to be upheld in the Maldives.
“We want Maldives to uphold democratic values” said an Indian official. India also called the government to implement the Supreme Court verdict of 1st February and asked to revoke the state of emergency.
Even though the government of Maldives say that Indian government is speaking about the situation of Maldives without knowing all the facts it can be seen that they know the situation better than the government of Maldives.
