JP Leader Qasim Ibrahim have said that if the people do not stand up against the unlawful rule of the government, the country cannot be saved and that this is the time for all Maldivians to stand up against the government.

Qasim said that the government is ruling unconstitutionally and that the extension of the state of emergency was unlawful. He said that the whole world knows that the state of emergency is no longer lawful. He said that the Prosecutor General and the Attorney General have also said the same.

In addition he said that the world will not accept the arrest of Maumoon Abdul Gayyoom, the two Supreme Court justices and the way the government is handling the floor crossing case. He said that the international community is trying to take action against the Maldives.

He said that Maldives will face starvation if any sanctions are imposed and hence no one should let it happen. He called all Maldivians to stand up against the government. He said that if they do not do it, it will be them who faces the burden in future. He asked everyone to gather to Male’ and protest against the government.
