President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has sent a message of condolence to the President of United States of America, His Excellency Mr. Donald J. Trump, following the passing away of Former First Lady of the United States Barbara Bush.

The President’s message reads as follows:

“It is with profound sorrow that I received the news of the passing away of Former First Lady of the United States Barbara Bush. She was an icon, a role model and a source of unrivaled inspiration for recent generations, especially to young women. Mrs. Bush was no doubt a woman of astuteness, a prominent advocate of literacy and a keen defender of the courses she believed. Mrs. Bush indeed had the most successful political as well as personal life, and showed the world what an honest and a dynamic life looks like. She will be missed dearly and remembered fondly.”

“At this time of global sorrow, national mourning in the United States and personal bereavement for the Bush family, the Government and the people of the Maldives join me in extending our heartfelt sympathies.”
