Deputy Leader of JP, Abdullah Kamaaluhdheen AK have called the government to remove the barriers which prevents senior citizens from serving the nation.

In 2015 the government amended the constitution barring people above the age of 65 years from contesting for political offices including the office of the president.

In addition the minimum age requirement for the post of presidency was changed to 30 years. Many say that this was done to prevent Qasim Ibrahim from competing and to allow Adeeb to become the vice president because at the time Adeeb was not 35 years old.

No other country has an upper age limit for the post of presidency or any other political office. Abdullah Kamaaluhdheen tweeted saying that Dr.Mahaathir proved that age is not a barrier to serve the nation.
