Appeal hearing of Chief Justice Abdullah Saeed and Justice Ali Hameed has been scheduled for tomorrow. Both of them were convicted by the Criminal Court for influencing lower court judges and were sentenced to 1 year 7 months and 6 days in jail.

Chief Justice Abdullah Saeed’s hearing will begin at the High Court at 1300 hours and Ali Hameed’s hearing will begin at 1400 hours. The first appeal hearing was held on last Thursday and tomorrow’s hearing will be the second.

In the first hearing, lawyers of the judges submitted many points to the judge and in tomorrow’s hearing they will present their case in detail to the judge.

With the latest amendment to the Judge’s Act, as soon as a judge is convicted of a crime, the appeal procedure should be completed by the High Court within 30 days and the Supreme Court should do the same. If the appeal courts decide to uphold the verdict of the lower court then both the judges will lose their seats on the Supreme Court bench.

Both these judges are being charged with terrorism, accepting bribes, and obstruction with justice as well.
