The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Maldives, His Excellency Dr. Mohamed Asim has sent a message of condolence to the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, Honourable Tilak JanakaMarapana, MP, following the flooding and landslides due to the torrential rains in Sri Lanka.
The message reads as follows:
“I am deeply saddened to hear about the loss of lives and extensive damage to thousands of homes and property, caused by the devastating landslides and flooding that has resulted from the torrential rains currently affecting Sri Lanka.
At this time of national tragedy, on behalf of the Government of Maldives and on my own behalf, I would like to extend our heartfelt sympathies to the Government and the friendly people of Sri Lanka.
I hope that the rescue and recovery operations continue smoothly and pray for the strength and fortitude for the people of Sri Lanka. Please also convey my sincere condolences to the members of the bereaved families.”
