Chief Justice Abdullah Saeed and Justice Ali Hameed has lost their seats on the Supreme Court bench.
They lost their seat after the Supreme Court upheld the Criminal Court ruling which convicted the two judges.
An amendment to the Judges Act states that if a judge is convicted of a crime and if the Supreme Court upholds the verdict, then the judge will lose the position. Previously the only way to remove a judge was through the parliament.
Criminal court found the two judges guilty of influencing lower court judges and sentenced them to 1 year, 7 months and 6 days.
The High Court also upheld the verdict of the Criminal Court but reduced the sentence. When appealed at the Supreme Court, the court decided that they cannot accept the appeal case and decided that the verdict issued by the Criminal Court was valid.
