President Yameen have said that if former President Maumoon handed over his mobile phone to the police investigation team, he would not have to be in jail today.

Speaking to the people of Hanimaadhoo the president said that he respects President Maumoon a lot but, if he gave his phone he would not have to be in jail today. “If someone commits a crime via an electronic device through the internet, the police would like to check these devices” said the president.

President Yameen said that he provided many opportunities to President Maumoon so that he could be changed to house arrest, but it can happen only when he acts in accordance with the constitution.
