Opposition parties have requested to include photographs of the voters in the voters list. A letter sent to the Election’s Commission by MDP states that the people are questioning the credibility of the elections since the commission decided not to include photographs in the voters list.

The letter further stated, that it has been the practice to include photo ID in the voters list and not doing it now will lead to vote rigging. Hence MDP requested EC to include photos in the voters list as the constitution mandates the EC to ensure that the election is free and fair.

Previously the Election Commission of the Maldives decided not to include photos in the voters list.
