Your majesty, you have invited former President Mohammed Nasheed; the most popular Maldivian politician to your country. You even sent a special jet to pick him up yesterday. We welcome you and thank you for that sir.

We believe that there might be two items on the agenda of this trip. Firstly, we believe that you will reveal the details of the millions of dollars in cash you provided to the Maldives as financial assistance during President Yameen’s administration.

Your majesty, we do not believe that the people benefited from your such cash assistance, just like the people did not get a fair share of the dates you sent to the Maldivian people as donations in the past 5 years. Which we note is a long-standing practice of Saudi kings. Hence, we will only be sure that the monetary aid which you provided were deposited to the accounts of MMA, only when we know that the money has been indeed deposited to the accounts of MMA. That can be done only when you provide us the details of the assistance you provided.

The second item on the agenda might be securing a safe passage for President Yameen to Saudi Arabia. Like how you provided asylum to the former PM of Pakistan Nawaz Shareef and the former Prime Minister of Yemen, we believe that you might want to give asylum to President Yameen as well.
If so, we have a huge request from the people of Maldives. That is, your majesty, providing us with the millions lost into corruption and looted from the state coffers during President Yameen’s administration.

Your majesty, this is not a small amount. In the last 5 years, 20 billion Rufiyaa of the people's money was lost. With a comprehensive audit, it is likely that the figure might rise to 30 billion Rufiyaa. President Yameen has admitted in front of the people that some of this money was taken to his house directly and used in an illegal manner.

These cases were not investigated because independent institutions to investigate them in the Maldives are “handicuffed”. The people have been calling to investigate these cases. However, the cases are frozen. Even the Anti-Corruption Commission probe into one of the cases has been stopped.

Your majesty, we are talking about around 2 billion dollars. For you, this might not be a huge amount but for us this is a huge amount. This is a huge debt even our future generations cannot repay.

So, our plea is that, if you give asylum to President Yameen, you should compensate for the money lost into corruption and theft during President Yameen’s administration and save us from this huge loss.

Your majesty, Maldivians have always respected and loved Saudi Arabia. They love the people of Saudi and perhaps love Saudi kings more than they love their own leaders.

We love you even more than the previous kings of Saudi Arabia, because you have visited Maldives to check on us. Among Kings of Saudi Arabia, you provided us with the most assistance. So, we hope that you will listen to our pleas and give us good news.
