Leader of JP, Qasim Ibrahim have said that it is of great happiness to everyone that justice is being attained through the courts after the results of the Presidential elections.
Qasim made this statement after the High Court acquitted him today. Qasim was jailed for 3 years 2 months and 12 days by the Criminal Court. He was sentenced in absentia.
The judges decided that the Criminal Court did not follow the procedure in sentencing Qasim and in carrying out the hearing. Qasim Ibrahim is free after this verdict of the High Court.
Qasim said that it is evident that justice still can be attained and it can be seen that this happened after 23rd September elections. He said that hence if we think, we can understand why the courts were unjust before. Qasim said that he was sent abroad on 6th September last year for 10 days but he was asked to return on the 6th day and even his passport was cancelled.
“Because of my ill-health the flights did not allow me to board. In Singapore they gave me a special permit to stay there based on humanitarian grounds. After that I went to Germany and stayed in Germany under a similar permit. Even my doctors are in Germany” said Qasim.
He said that the months away from friends, family and members of JP were sad and difficult. Qasim thanked the lawyers, the media and everyone else who worked hard to free him from the unjust jail sentence.
