Gasim Ibrahim, the leader of the Jumhooree Party has called the authorities to provide Maldives Police Service with state of the art, modern equipments.

Gasim Ibrahim made this remark in his statement on the occasion of Police Memorial Day.

Gasim Ibrahim underscored the importance of providing the police with modern training and new technologies. He said that new technologies can offer police many useful methods for combating criminal activity.

He said that it is necessary to increase the ability of police through improved training and better equipment to enable them to deal with hazardous situations, without incurring unnecessary losses.

Gasim added that the death of a policeman at the hands of a criminal is much more than the sum of resources invested in his recruitment, training and maintenance.

He said that the police have to work works under very difficult circumstances and they make efforts to control crime and maintain internal security against all odds. He said that the police have also made many sacrifices, including the supreme sacrifice of losing their lives. He noted that a number of police personnel have also been martyred in line of duty.

Gasim prayed for the souls of the martyred Police officers who sacrificed their lives while in the line of duty.
