Minister of Home affairs, Umar Naseer has said that priority will be given to make Maldives Police service a more proactive force.

Minister Umar Naseer made this remark speaking at the Police Memorial Day ceremony. He said that special importance will be given to implement the practice of deterring criminal activity by showing police presence and engaging the public to learn their concerns, thereby preventing crime from taking place in the first place.

Umar Naseer noted the hard work and sacrifices of the Police for the sake of the people and the nation.

He said that the police put their lives on the line in the service of their fellow people willingly without hesitation by the very nature of their calling.

The Minister said that the responsibilities of the police are many and being a police officer is not an easy task.

He said that it is not a comfortable desk job that one can do whilst being protected from the scorching sun or from mud and rain.

He said that the comfort of the Police officers is the efficiency achieved by them while performing out in the field though the services they provide for their nation and their fellow citizens.
