Home Minister Umar Naseer has called to make a balance between protecting the independence and sovereignty of Maldives while at working to improve the economy.

Home Minister Umar Naseer made this remark in his address to the nation on the occasion of the Independence Day of Maldives.

Umar Naseer said that the political independence and economic independence are closely knitted and therefore it is very important to strike a balance in preserving the sovereignty of the country while at the same time developing the economy of the Maldivian nation.

He said that imperialists work now to threaten the sovereignty and independence of nations by way of entering into economy.

He said that this is something that the leaders of the nations should be very alert of. He said that they should therefore strike a balance between preserving the independence when developing the economy.
