The US citizen, John Seyfert who is a ‘refugee’ in Hulhumale’ can be deported to make him quiet. Also, those with power can do many other things.

Yet, there are things we should think about. Apparently, he loaned 250,000 dollars to a Maldivian to develop a guest house in Hulhumale’. Even if this cannot proved, he was able to prove that he loaned 42,000 dollars and the Civil Court ordered the man to pay it back.

From his Facebook, it is clear that he lent the money to a family member of someone who is politically influential. Also, he was sent threatening messages by members of this family, warning him to leave Maldives.

According to John Seyfert he worked at Conrad Maldives. “Those days he will call sometimes, and ask for money saying that someone in his family is sick. Or he will say that he does not have money to eat. Several times I have visited him via sea plane and attended to his needs. I looked after him as my own son.” Said Seyfert.

John Seyfert said that he did not sign any official agreement or anything of that sort before lending the money because he did not believe that Maldivians are swindlers. He said that he did not think Maldivians will embezzle and scam like some people from African countries.

It has been proven at the court that a Maldivian owes him money. Since, it is obligatory to the state to get that money from him. It is the law of Allah and Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) has shown us that it should be done.

When some tribes of Mecca seize goods of traders who visit Mecca, the prophet himself resolves these issues. This is proven from the life of the prophet. Hence, is it not obligatory for the state to retrieve the money from the Maldivian man and give it back to John Seyfert.
