President Yameen have stated that the country cannot be developed if the youth of the nation are trapped behind bars. He said that for the country to attain development, the youth of the nation should work hard for development.

Speaking at the “Heyvalla” rally organized by PPM, the president said that in a developed society the people should work to secure their rights. However, he said that the path chosen to get these rights should be carefully thought about. He said that if the politicians try to trap the youth behind bars, then it is not development.

The president said that it is not the direction Maldives wants to head in. “Maldives wants to become the most peaceful and the most developed nation in this region” said the President. In addition, he said that if the politicians truly care about the youth, they should not encourage them to commit crimes, but encourage them to engage in productive work to develop the nation.

“Constructing the bridge only might not be development. But developing the health sector is indeed development. Achievement in the education sector is development. The work done to reduce debt is development. The work done to create more job opportunities and creating a generation that will represent Maldives in the international arena, is definitely development” said the president.
