President Yameen have said that the women of Maldives have showed their talent and that the government is ready to assist and guide them. He made this statement while speaking at the opening ceremony of “Hunaruveri kanbalunge expo 2017” a special expo organized to display the work of women in Maldives.

The president said that while there were more than 26,000 items submitted to the expo, it was a number far greater than the national expo on handicrafts as well. He said that this shows the support this expo received. He also said that it is not easy to organize such an expo, but the expo was arranged really well.

In addition, the president said that his government will not discriminate women and especially there will be no discrimination in hiring. He said that there is no reason why women should be discriminated when hiring for the workforce. President said that while women can complete the jobs they do perfectly, there is no reasons they cannot reach top positions. He said that he will achieve the government’s plan to allocate 40 percent of all company boards to women.

He said that some crafts take a long time to manufacture and hence such crafts should be marketed well. Also, he said that products that can be mass produced should be mass produced with modern technology. The president said that the tourists who visit Maldives do not want souvenirs that are imported to Maldives, but they want souvenirs that are made in Maldives. He said that hence such souvenir should be supplied to the souvenir shops in Maldives.

The President praised the creativity of Maldivian women. “The hardest sectors in the country are education sector and health sector. Women dominate these sectors. These are very important sectors. It is women who resolve various problems that arise in daily life” said the President.

President said that handicrafts can be made even from home and it is an area where people can earn money at home. He also said that the items in the expo have contemporary designs and it shows how the sector has progressed. In addition, he stressed on the importance of a mechanism that will allow such products to be sold quickly.
