Villa has decided to appeal the Th.Atoll Elaa case at the supreme court because the company does not accept that the high court ruling was just.

Even though High Court ruled against Villa today, in January 2016, Civil Court ruled that Tourism Ministry annulled the agreement with Villa by taking precedent from a settlement agreement signed in 2013 and hence the action of the ministry is invalid.

High Court has overruled the verdict of the Civil Court. Civil Court ruled that the state cancelled the agreement with Villa Shipping and Trading regarding the lease of Elaa of Th.Atoll unlawfully. The case was presided by chief judge of the High Court Abdullah Didi.

While issuing the verdict, judge Abdullah Didi said that the civil court ruling was unlawful and hence they have overruled the verdict of the lower court.

Speaking at today’s hearing the lawyer of Villa, Ahmed Shafeeg said that since lawyers of the state attended the hearing late, the whole case should be cancelled. However, Judge Abdullah said that, it happened due to an administrative error and since lawyers from both sides are present the case would go on.
