private Fathimath Nazra has won the first place in women’s category in the 12th Drill competition of MNDF. The second place was won by private Fathimath Shahma.

Female soldiers were equally competitive and skillful as male soldiers. A total of 446 soldiers from 14 squadrons took part in the competition. Among these, there was an all-female squadron as well. This is the first time an all-female squadron took part in the drill competition.

Previously female soldiers were using light weapons. However in this competition even female soldiers used SLR Rifles. Chief of Defense Force, Major General Ahmed Shiyam praised the female soldiers who took part in the competition.

Women were allowed in the army after the 1988 terrorist attack against Maldives.
