MIRA freezes accounts of Villa Shipping and Trading again.

Maldives Inland Revenue Authority has frozen all the bank accounts of Villa Shipping and Trading again.

MIRA notified Villa about the freeze sometime yesterday.

A letter sent to Villa signed by Director General Enforcement Fathimath Ameeza, states that MIRA has taken action against Villa group because Villa has not paid the money it owes to the state regarding Th.Elaa case. The actions taken against Villa include a temporary ban on services provided to Villa by different state institutions and freezing of all bank accounts of Villa.

According to the letter sent to Villa by Mira, Villa group should pay 3.8 million dollars as rent, 14.6 million dollars as fines and 226351 dollars as interest. In total Villa should pay 18.6 million dollars. In 2015 also Mira froze the accounts of Villa saying that Villa Group should pay 99 million dollars.

Villa Shipping and Trading Company has repeatedly confirmed that they have paid all payments to MIRA and there is no outstanding.

In 2015 MIRA Freezed Villa Shipping and Trading Company’s accounts at a time that Chairman Qasim Ibrahim has spoken publicly in favour of Former President Mohamed Nasheed. This time they have frozen the accounts at a time Qasim Ibrahim has spoken supporting the removal of Speaker of the Parliament.
