JP Leader Qasim Ibrahim have said that Maldivians have shown that they are politically mature in the last local council elections and the next step is going forward together.

After being away from political activities since 20th April due to his detention in Dhoonidhoo Jail and due to conditions set by the criminal court, Qasim took part in an opposition gathering last night.

Speaking at the gathering Qasim said that in the elections people showed that they were greatly in need of justice and fundamental rights.

He said that since the people are now politically mature, they showed what they want from the votes. Qasim said that hence this shows that the people want the chance to live in a democratic, peaceful and a just society.

Qasim also thanked everyone who raised voice on his behalf while he was under police detention. He said that he does not want to talk about what he went through and what is important is no one else going through what he has been through. He said that the country should have a culture of justice.

He also said that the results of the local council elections showed that everyone should work together for the nation and all coalition partners should accept this. He noted the importance of working together without going astray.

A lot of people took part in the gathering last night even though it was raining heavily at the time.
