Economic Ministry have stated that they will take action against businesses for artificial price hikes. Speaking to the press, the deputy Economic Minister Abdullah Muhammad said that even last year some businesses increased the price of onions thrice on one day and it is not acceptable.

He said that the ministry has listed 62 products for Ramadan and they will check the change in price for these products very closely. He also said that the police will stop shop owners from selling products from the pavement in front of the shops.

Furthermore, the deputy minister noted that in Ramadan foreigners in Maldives produce many food products and sell it. He said that this is illegal and asked to inform the ministry about such things.
