Fisheries minister Dr.Muhammad Shainee have said that once coconuts are brought from islands under Minister of Fisheries and Agriculture, the price will decline.

The minister said that they have given permission for 2 groups to bring in coconuts from these islands to the markets of Male’. He said that these two parties should sell coconuts at a price asked by the ministry. A coconut should be sold for 7 Rufiyaa as per the agreement.

At the moment, the price of a coconut in Male’ market is between 10 to 50 Rufiyaa. The ministry has also created a special Ramadan market near T-Jetty area and the plots are given to traders with no costs.
