Opposition coalition have said that the 4 members who lost their seats have submitted the case to the Supreme Court and if judged justly they will not lose their seats.

In a press conference held at Kunooz by the opposition coalition, they stated that the Elections Commission cannot remove any parliament member form their seats and it is the Supreme Court which can make this decision.

In addition, they said that even if the 4 members are removed, they cannot invalidate decisions made by the 4 members while they were members. They said that hence, the signature they signed on the censure motion against the speaker of the parliament should be valid and the parliament should schedule a session to take a vote on the motion.

The coalition also condemned that the impeachment motion was invalidated and the letter sent to the parliament members were signed by the Deputy Speaker Moosa Manik. They said that the Deputy Speaker does not have the authority to sign the motion and it is the secretory general of the parliament that should do this.

Speaking at today’s press conference MP for Makunudhoo constituency Anara Naeem said that it is questionable now whether Maldives is governed through Supreme Court verdicts or based on the consituition. She said that the opposition is now working to solve these problems.
