Qasim Ibrahim’s lawyers file case at Human Rights Commission of the Maldives

Qasim’ Ibrahim’s lawyers have filed a case at HRCM, because he has not received permission to travel abroad for treatment.

A statement released by Qasim’s lawyers state that Qasim got sick on 16th July and even though doctors have advised him to go abroad for treatments, the government has still not allowed him to leave the country.

It stated that article 21 of the constitution gives everyone the right to life and the right to protect one’s self and hence Qasim also should get these rights without any discrimination. In addition it stated called those who are responsible in upholding the law to do their job.

Furthermore, the statement called to ensure Qasim Ibrahim’s rights and to treat him with humanely and treat him in accordance with the law. In addition, the statement called relevant government authorities to allow Qasim Ibrahim to leave the country to seek treatment.

The statement, asked Human Rights Commission of the Maldives to ensure Qasim’s rights and take action in this case by using the authority given to HRCM under the constitution of Maldives.
