The Prosecutor General has appealed Abdullah Riyaz’s case at the high court. Earlier today the Criminal Court exonerated Riyaz from the charges against him. Riyaz was charged with obstruction of a law enforcement officer.

The PG appealed the case at High Court on 22nd of July. The three judges who presided over the case ruled that there are conflicts in witness testimony and hence the charges against him cannot be proved.

In addition, they stated that Police apprehended Riyaz on 27th of March against the parliamentary privileges act.

Furthermore it stated that the criminal procedures act states that the mobile phone cannot be confiscated without any evidence related to the alleged crime and that Riyaz’s phone was confiscated without any evidence.
